This Fundamentals of digital marketing is a free course that covers the basics of digital marketing and is approved by the Interactive Advertising Bureau Europe and The Open University. There are 26 modules to explore, all designed by Google trainers and jam-packed with practical exercises and real-world examples to help you convert knowledge into action. 

The instructors do a great job in guiding students through the fundamentals of digital marketing and in detailing the nitty-gritty of the processes while citing real-life examples of entrepreneurs in India who have taken their businesses online and have benefitted largely from it. The stories told are inspiring and motivating as they brought forth how India, as well as the world in general, is highly benefiting from using various digital marketing tools and implementing them to multiply their profits and outsourcing.

Course Structure

Firstly, at the beginning of the course, the instructors meticulously ensure that the students understand the fundamentals of marketing and digital marketing in general and the huge potential of these fields. Next, they move to the term-specific explanation wherein important terms like SEO, SEM, etc. and applications for the same are explained. 

Besides this, the instructors guide the students on how to expand their business online and overseas. Lastly, through this course, we get to know about Google Ads, how to do keyword research, etc., to gain exposure and expertise in the field. It is a unique experience throughout; the course is simply amazing. 

The course structure moves from the basics to advance-level topics, starting with the introduction of the advantages of taking one's business online to delving into deeper concepts of SEO, SEM, the importance of online presence, local awareness, building global awareness, how to research on keywords and their click-through rates, judge how the ads are performing and how to utilize Google and its free resources. The course also highlights how one can make the most of the Google search engine platform for advertising and marketing.  

The general assignment (after the end of each section) could be attempted many times, whereas the final test could only be given 3 times. Besides this, all the study materials, like notes and presentations, are also provided for further studies and references. 

We had the freedom to discuss the knowledge gained from the course with our peers. Besides this, the community section was an encouragement and motivated me to stick to the end of the course. I also got to interact with a community of students. This further increased my knowledge. Being part of a community in the learning process was helpful as we shared the platform to build and develop their skills and expertise in the industry.

To get the best out of this course, I have included some important tips that you might find useful.

  • Make Proper Notes
     
    Maintain proper notes of key points and interview questions for later reference.
     
  • Ask Questions 
     
    Clarify each doubt with your support engineer and be particular about your work. Save the work which you have done on Simulink Matlab.
     
  • Assessments
     
    The assessment questions were relevant and helped me understand the concepts better. Besides, the assignments were very frequent: one set of assignments after the lesson completion and another set after the completion of the section. This course thoroughly covers the fundamentals of marketing from basic to advanced level and is very beginner friendly. Besides, this course is for everyone. 

Final Take

I am currently working as a campus ambassador of IIT Kharagpur and as a Project Associate of Foruppo. This course has highly helped me increase my outreach, understand customer experience better, and understand how startups work and benefit from taking their business online. Through my work as a Project Associate, I get to interact with a lot of startup founders and have made my motto to spread awareness about courses like this, especially in rural areas where the startup founders start their businesses with low or almost no financial assistance or background knowledge in the field of digital marketing. 

Besides this, I have dreams of opening a company and building one-stop solutions for companies and startups who want to increase their digital outreach, increase their profits, and create awareness about their business locally and pan India. I want to provide services related to SEO, SEM, influencer marketing, and Google ads and build websites for the customers to interact and get a detailed overview of the products and services provided by the company. I want to build it to cover both the front-end and back-end of the website and create a responsive site so that the users can get their general doubts cleared through the FAQ section. I also want to create a 'call for action' for the users to get an immersive experience and increase the company's conversion rate. 

There were great reviews about the course on YouTube, various SEO and marketing experts, and the LinkedIn community and I decided to try it. The quality and the hard work that has gone into developing the course are evident. Taking it up was one of a kind experience.
