Institute Overview

It was founded in 1965 as The Interior Decorators and Designers Association. In 2002, the British Interior Design Association was formed when the UK chapter became the International Interior Design Association. It was granted Institute status by the Secretary of State in 2009. In 2009, it became the British Institute of Interior Design. It was absorbed by the Interior Design Association in 2013, a business association representing interior design professionals working in the commercial sector.
