IDSS's mission is to promote education and research in the most advanced analytical methods in information and decisions systems, statistics, data science and the social sciences. These methods can be applied to complex societal problems in a variety of areas, such as finance and energy systems, urbanization and social networks, health, and other areas.
The technology advances in smart sensors, big data and communications, computing and social networking are quickly increasing the complexity and size of interconnected systems and networks. At the same time, they are producing masses of data that can be used to generate new insights and understanding. IDSS research focuses on understanding and analyzing data from these systems. This is a unique challenge due to the complexity and scale of the system and the difficulty in extracting actionable insights.
Our ability to analyze data and create models across complex interconnected systems is the key to our ability to discover new insights and solve problems.
