National Institute of Technology Calicut, NIT Calicut or NITC is one of the 31 institutions under the NIT Act 2007 which is fully funded by the Government of India. It was established as Calicut Regional Engineering College in 1961 and later transformed into NIT Calicut in 2002. The institute offers bachelor's, master's and degree programmes in different streams of Science, Engineering, Technology, and Management. The undergraduate courses offered include B.Tech in various engineering fields and B.Arch. The list of postgraduate courses includes M.Tech, M.Sc., M.C.A, M.B.A, and M.Plan. Ph.D programmes are available in different engineering and science streams. NIT Calicut is presently offering 10 UG programmes with a total intake of 5812 and 30 PG programmes with a total intake of 666. NIT Calicut is ranked 25th in the Engineering category and 2nd in the Architecture category in the NIRF Ranking 2021 while it ranked 23rd in the Engineering category and 3rd in the Architecture category in the NIRF Ranking 2020.
Admission to undergraduate courses is done based on the rank in JEE Main. The M.Tech students are admitted based on GATE scores, the M.C.As through NIMCET scores and the admission to the M.Sc programme is done through an entrance exam conducted by the institute. The Ph.D candidates are interviewed on the basis of their GATE/JEST/NET/NBHM qualifications. NIT Calicut has a rich faculty community that predominantly consists of Ph.D holders involved in teaching and research. At present, there are 193 faculty members in the cadre of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. The institute has a large non-teaching staff who runs administrative, laboratory, maintenance and estate units smoothly.
National Institute of Technology Calicut is located about 22 kilometres away from Calicut city. It is a residential campus with basic amenities and is well-connected by road, rail and air. The distance from Kozhikode airport is approximately 40 kilometres. The distance between Calicut railway station and NIT Calicut is 23 km. The campus of NIT Calicut is connected with the city by KSRTC buses starting from KSRTC Central bus station, Mavoor Road. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are also available from Calicut Railway/Bus Station to NIT Calicut.
