National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur is one of the 31 NITs of India which was established on 7th August 1986 as Regional Engineering College. This was as a result of a joint effort of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. On 26th June 2002, the institute was awarded the status of a Deemed University and renamed to the National Institute of Technology. It is now an Institute of National Importance set up by an Act of Parliament, that is, the National Institute of Technology Act 2007. The university is ranked 23rd and 99th in NIRF Ranking 2021 in the architecture and engineering categories respectively. NIT Hamirpur is set up over a sprawling 132 acres and it has 130 faculty members.
The university offers a total of 50 courses at UG, PG and doctoral level. NIT Hamirpur offers courses in Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Humanities and Management streams. Admissions to courses offered by the university is done based on different entrance exam such as JEE Main, GATE, JAM, CAT etc. The varsity has a placement cell to look after the placement of students. The campus of National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur has a wide range of facilities for the convenience of students and faculty members.
The university is very well connected to the adjoining key cities. Bhuntar Airport in Kullu is nearest to the campus. It is located 145 kilometre away from the university. The nearest railway station is Una Railway Station, which is about 80 km away from the NIT Hamirpur. The nearest bus station is Hamirpur Bus Stand, approximately 4 km from the campus.
The aim of the computer centre is to provide relevant professional services, assist and promote the use of latest computing technology among the staff, students, and administration. The centre regulates different communication and computing facilities throughout the campus.
