Taipei Medical University (TMU), a collegiate academic institution, has a long history in Taiwan. TMU was established in 1960 and has grown steadily over the past 50 years without a regular budget from the government nor funding from foundations. It went through the process of building the foundation, flourishing and expanding, as well as transformation via innovation. TMU is a top-ranked university that has ten colleges and 6,000 students annually. It also boasts five hospitals (TMU Hospital, Wan Fang Medical Center and Shuang Ho Hospital), as well as more than 40,000 alumni from around the globe. These facilities serve the community and the nation and help to cultivate the future talent. These are the most significant contributions of TMU and its most important mission. TMU has worked hard to improve its management skills and continue to seek out new innovations. The University has seen growth in research, teaching, and service. It has been recognized at home and abroad with unanimous approval. Global Views Monthly Magazine published the July 2017 ranking of Taiwan's Top Universities. TMU was 9th. TMU was ranked number 1 in the faculty-student ratio section (1.9.9) and average student budget per student section (1.08.9). Cheers Magazine published the February 2017 list of the 20 top universities of excellence performance. TMU was ranked at the 10th spot in overall national rankings.
TMU was also ranked 91st in the Times Higher Education (THE), Asia University Ranking 2017. Three months later, QS World University Rankings published its 2018 ranking. TMU was ranked 398th globally, making it the most highly-ranked private university of Taiwan. It is also ranked 10th in the list of all Taiwan universities. TMU strongly promotes internationalization with 200 partner institutions worldwide. TMU conducts international research collaborations with US institutions like Case Western Reserve University (Johns Hopkins University), University of Chicago, University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Stanford University and Yale University. These partnerships are part of TMU's efforts to improve its research quality. TMU has been approved by the Ministry of Education for the joint operation of an aEURoeNanomedical engineering Graduate Institute for Masters or Ph. D. ProgramsaEUR is in collaboration with University of Southern California's Vertibi School of Engineering. TMU also has 18 dual-degree partnership agreements with Case Western Reserve University and University of Southern California in America, Universite de Droit et la Sante Lille 2, in France, Hokkaido University, Ben-Gurion University, and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, (KMUTT ) respectively, to offer students the opportunity to study abroad. TMU's future vision is to cultivate biomedical talent that has international perspectives, humanistic empathy and innovative capacity.
