Course Description

The Internet of Things (IoT), is the next big revolution in computing. The Internet of Things (IoT) is already revolutionizing the way that we live and work. This course will teach you how to understand IoT technologies. Students will learn IoT device programing (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), sensing, actuating technologies and IoT protocol stacks (Zigbee 5G, NFC MQTT, etc), network backhaul design, security enforcement, data science and cloud-based IoT platforms like AWS IoT. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in honors activities that will allow them to gain real-world experience. They will use lab assignments to deploy a distributed wifi monitoring system, a cloud-based IoT platform for serving thousands of heartbeat sensors, as well as other IoT-related tasks. The class will provide students with an in-depth education on the rapidly evolving technology sector and the ability to perform tasks that they might encounter in the workplace. You will need hardware to do the practical experiments. Depending on where you live, the cost of this course may range between 100 to 200 USD. The majority of the parts required for the first course will be used in subsequent courses.
