Course Description

This specialization will expose you to contemporary art. You will see original audio and films, and get to know the artists and designers behind them. This specialization is designed for those who want to learn more about contemporary and modern art. It is not necessary to have any prior knowledge. Register to receive invitations for virtual events, get exclusive access to MoMA resources, share ideas, and join an international learning community. Modern Art & Ideas is a great place to start to see how artists have used their environment to address social issues in the past 150 years. Next, dive deep into Seeing Through Photographs. This course explores photography's origins from the mid-1800s to the present. This course bridges the gap between understanding and seeing photographs. It introduces ideas, approaches, and technologies that help to make them. What is Contemporary Art? Explore art made since 1980. This course covers everything from 3-D-printed glass and fibre sculptures to factory performances. It also introduces you to the many motivations and methods used by artists today. The Specialization in Fashion as Design will help you explore the fashion choices that affect expression, sustainability, labor practices and identity. Learn from fashion designers who work with clothing every day, and sometimes even reinvent it for the future.
