The Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur was established in the year 2015. It is one of the third generation IIMs in the country, approved by the Government of India. It is mentored by IIM Indore and registered as a society on August 19, 2015, under the Societies and Registration Act, XXI of 1860. According to NIRF ranking 2021, IIM Sambalpur has been ranked 61 amongst management institutions with an overall score of 46.17. It has been recognised as the 'Institute of National Importance.'
IIM Sambalpur offers MBA, Executive MBA, Ph.D and Executive Ph.D programmes in Management. The executive Ph.D course is unique in itself designed for working professionals. The institute also carries out a student exchange programme with international B-schools. This offers students wider perspectives and experience in different skill sets by international exposure.
IIM Sambalpur temporary campus is situated at Jyoti Vihar, Burla. This is also the location of the Sambalpur University, nestled in the beautiful Barapahad, surrounded by forests with debrigarh wildlife sanctuary on one end and Hirakud Dam on the other. Sambalpur is well connected with Bhubaneswar and Raipur via road and rail. The with recent addition of the Biju Expressway, road connectivity has improved multifolds. The Jharsuguda Airport is just 1 hr. long drive with frequent flights to major cities like Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Raipur, Kolkata, Ranchi. The rail connectivity is also good with Sambalpur being a major railway station in the East Coast Railways Zone and trains to almost all major regions in the country.
