Institute Overview

The university was established in 2007 by the government of India. The university has six schools of studies. Sikkim University also has three research centers, namely Centre for Endangered Languages funded by the UGC, Maulana Azad Centre for Northeast Studies funded by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata and Centre for Bioinformatics funded by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The university is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade A. Sikkim University Gangtok is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The mission and vision of the university is to provide quality education and nurture professionals to serve the society and the nation.

The popular courses offered by Sikkim University are B.A., B.P.A., M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.B.A, M.C.A., M.P.A., M.T.T.M., M.Ed., L.L.M, M.Phil and Ph.D. Admission to UG and PG programmes are done on the basis of merit score of entrance test, CAT, except for M.B.A, where candidates having valid score of CAT/MAT/CMAT are exempted from CAT (Common Admission Test) and after that, candidates have to appear for group discussion and interview. The campus size of the university is spread over an area of 300 acres of land. The university provides many facilities. Sikkim University also has a placement cell. The placement cell of the university conducts various pre-placement training. The university also provides scholarships to meritorious students and financially backward students. Students can also apply for UGC scholarships. The university also has a counselling cell and NSS.

The nearest airport to the university is Pakyong Airport. It is located at a distance of 18.9 km and it will take around 47 minutes to reach the campus.
