A landscape architect designs outdoor spaces for residential, commercial and public use. The landscape architect provides consultations to clients to assess their needs and determine how the desired concept could be carried out. They use AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite and or or other related software to design landscapes for the client’s approval; the ability to read and create blueprints is also important, and sometimes hand sketches must be created. Often, the client has a specific budget and the landscape architect must work to use high-quality materials that still fit within this budget. In some cases, the landscape architect must participate in the bidding process for particular jobs.A bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture is typically the minimum educational requirement for landscape architect positions. Leadership and teamwork skills are important, as they often work with other architects and individuals who provide labor. Customer service skills are also essential in this role.
