Course Description

Apache Cassandra, an open-source NoSQL NoSQL database, specializes in speed and scale. Cassandra, which is based on Dynamo as well as Google BigTable technical features, is one of the most popular distributed data storage systems. Cassandra is the database to consider if you have more data than one server can hold.

This tutorial will provide a comprehensive introduction to Cassandra. This tutorial will help you understand Cassandra's uniqueness from other NoSQL databases and relational databases. You will also learn enough about the Java API to start writing code. This course will explore Cassandra’s unique tabular data model, examine the internal performance of each Cassandra node in a Cassandra Database--the read/write path; explain the operational responsibilities for maintaining Cassandra clusters; and guide you through writing Java code to read from and write to a Cassandra Database. This tutorial is for developers and architects who are just starting with Cassandra or those who are considering using a nonrelational datastore.

Confluent's senior director of developer experience is Tim Berglund. Tim is a teacher, author and technology leader. He speaks regularly at big data conferences both in the U.S.A and internationally. He is co-author of O'Reilly titles mastering advanced Git and mastering Cassandra to Architects. He is also the cohost on the DevRel Radio podcast.
