The Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) Kolkata was established in the year 2001 by the Kalyan Bharti Trust. The college is UGC recognised and is affiliated with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (MAKAUT). Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata is accredited by NAAC with a B++ grade. The college was granted the status of ‘Autonomous’ on the recommendation of UGC by the West Bengal University of Technology. The institute follows the rule of college dress code for students and students are expected to follow the same. The institute has been ranked 154 by the NIRF in the year 2020.
Heritage Institute of Technology courses include UG and PG programmes. The UG programme offers BTech courses and the PG programme offers MTech and MCA courses. Heritage Institute of Technology courses for B.Tech include , Biotechnology, Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, to name a few.
