The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore was established in 1946. It is a grant-in-aid institution and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The National Institute of Engineering is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. NIE Mysore got autonomous status from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi in the year 2007. The National Institute of Engineering has been accredited by NAAC. It is a private institute. The National Institute of Engineering is spread over an area of 12 acres. Five NIE Mysore undergraduate programmes such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Industrial and Production Engineering and three PG programmes such as Hydraulics, Production Engineering and System Technology and Structural Engineering have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi, under Tier-I. NIE Mysore has been ranked 196th under the engineering category in the NIRF 2021 ranking.
All the departments of NIE Mysore are recognised as Research Centre under VTU and AICTE for QIP. The institute offers various UG, PG and Ph.D programmes.
