The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the historically black 1890 land-grant university in Maryland, has its unique purpose and uniqueness rooted in innovative learning, discovery, and engagement opportunities in the arts, sciences, education and technology, business, health professions, and agriculture. We are a doctoral research university that is student-centered. Our nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as highly valued graduates, make us a top-ranked university. UMES offers 60 degrees and certificates in a variety of fields, including education, cybersecurity, education management, pharmacy, physical therapy and many more. USM is Maryland's public higher educational system. Its mission is to improve Marylanders' quality of life by offering a wide range of quality, affordable, and accessible education opportunities. USM and the Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation have launched USMx in order to assist institutions to take advantage of the benefits of online learning and allow students to interact with faculty and content in the most convenient way for them.
