The University of Tokyo, formerly known as Imperial University and Toko Imperial University, was established 148 years ago in 1877. Today is one of the top public research universities worldwide. The Meiji Government founded it, and since then, it has been doing great work towards providing quality education to the students of the world.

The University encompasses ten varied faculties, including agriculture, arts and sciences, economics, engineering, law, medicine, science, etc. and 15 graduate schools. 10 out of these 15 schools work closely with the integrated divisions of the University. There are various research institutions inside the campus, like the Earthquake Research Institute, the Institute of Social Science, and many more. The Tokyo University is affiliated with the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia and the Center for Spatial Information Science. They use mainly Japanese and, to some extent, English as the medium of instruction and communication.
