A process engineering manager is in charge of designing and implementing manufacturing processes, plants, and/or equipment within their field. They are primarily responsible for ensuring continual improvement related to process, cost, production and overall quality of the products. This position exists in many areas and industries; however, these managers typically work in a manufacturing plant or factory. While process engineering managers usually work during regular business hours, other hours may be needed since most plants and factories operate 24 hours a day. Examples of fields that employ process engineering managers include biotechnical, pharmaceutical, mineral processing, information technology, and petrochemical companies. A process engineering manager is primarily responsible for guiding and managing other engineers within the field and evaluating their performance. This person must should possess excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and technical skills within their field. This position typically requires decision-making, team-building, and leadership abilities; a process engineering manager should also stay up-to-date on the latest developments within their field. This person should be comfortable designing and testing prototypes and supervising other engineers and employees.A process engineering manager is typically required to have attained a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and most likely a master’s degree, as well as field-specific licensing.
