Course Description

Learn how to efficiently rig a character for a specific action. Then, bring it to life using Adobe After Effects animation. Learn how to add secondary animation to give your character a more realistic look.

Animation can be a powerful storytelling tool that allows viewers to picture themselves in the characters' shoes and to relate your message to their lives. Animation can be tedious, especially when you consider the time it takes to rig them.

This class will show you Limber, my favorite tool for custom, efficient character rigs.

Limber is an After Effects plugin that allows you quickly to create flexible, shape-based legs. It includes all the necessary features, including the ability to create custom-designed limbs from your own artwork, the ability to auto-rotate hands and the ability seamlessly switch between FK and IK animating. It's all explained in class! It's also compact, not too complicated, and easy-to-learn.

You can follow along with the class using the Limber free trial, and you can decide if this is a tool that you want to purchase.

This class is for 2D animators who have some knowledge of character rigging and animation.

It is important to know:

  • How to import artwork from Adobe Illustrator
  • After Effects basics like creating compositions, setting keyframes, rendering, etc.
  • How to adjust the anchor points that a layer rotates about
  • How to parent layers and properties
  • How to apply an effect on a layer
  • How to animated the path of a shape
  • How to add easing between keyframes.

You'll be able:

  • Limber allows you to efficiently rig limbs using custom artwork
  • Animation can bring your character to life
  • For a more realistic look, add secondary animation

This bonus lesson shows you how to animated the background
