Established in 1921, Harcourt Butler Technical University is one of the famous universities of Uttar Pradesh for providing technical education. HBTU is one of the oldest engineering colleges of India (formerly known as HBTI) which provides undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering along with MCA giving a wide range of options for students. HBTU Kanpur was also one of the 127 technical institutions in India that received funding from the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA) in phase one (2004-2009) of the Technical Engineering Educational Quality Improvement Project (TEQIP)-the first World Bank Higher Education Project in India.
The institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi. The institute has been ranked 166 by MHRD, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the year 2020. Spread in 348 acres, HBTU Kanpur is well equipped with modern facilities and infrastructure. HBTU is the only institute in North India which offers B.Tech. inChemical Technology branches like Paint Technology, Plastic Technology,Leather Technology, Food Technology, Oil Technology and Biochemical Engineering. All the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes offered by HBTU Kanpur are NBA accredited.
