IIITDM Kancheepuram was established in the year 2007 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India as Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram. The institution is also known as IIITDM Kancheepuram. The campus is spread over 51 acres of land. Earlier the institute was functioning in the temporary campus at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. In the year 2011, it started functioning in its permanent campus at Kelambakkam-Vandalur road near Chennai. The mission and vision of the institute is to become a premier and world-class institution in the field of Design and Manufacturing that develops a generation of engineers. According to NIRF 2020, the institute has been ranked 182 in the engineering category.
Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram offers 4 undergraduate, 5 postgraduate, 5 dual degree and 5 doctoral programmes in the field of engineering and design.
