IT professionals may need to hold various certifications related to computers. They need to be flexible as the computer systems of many companies operate all hours of the day. They could have shifts that rotate. They visit clients to discuss their IT needs. They need to be able to travel to the customer's locations.
They will discuss the requirements of clients and determine the scope of their IT projects. They need to clarify the client's specifications and requirements for their systems. They meet with clients to discuss the timeframes and fees. They should have exceptional communication skills. They should have exceptional writing and oral communication skills. They should be able to communicate with staff at all levels within the client's organization and with the end users. They should record computer program issues and resolutions. They need to stay current with the latest technologies in hardware and software. They often have to attend additional computer courses and attend conferences and workshops. They should be able to collaborate in a group environment. They could be required to coach and train younger or more junior IT consultants.
