Course Structure

Throughout the Business Analytical Skills program, students are familiarized with large spreadsheets and Tableau UI so that they are ready to create visualizations that are part of a larger story and learn to solve business problems for higher management. As the course progresses, learners get more opportunities to play with data and create important visualizations.

The program is divided into 5 sections, each covering a different aspect of business analytics:

Introduction to Business Analytics

In this section, students will learn the fundamentals of business analytics, including data analysis, data visualization, and data modeling.
SQL for Data Analysis

In this section, students will learn the Structured Query Language (SQL) programming language, which is essential for managing and querying large datasets.
Data Visualization

In this section, students will learn how to use data visualization tools like Tableau and PowerBI to create effective visualizations that can help them communicate insights to stakeholders.
Data Modeling

In this section, students learn how to use statistical modeling techniques to make predictions and inform business decisions.
Business Analytics Capstone Project

In this final section, students apply the skills and tools they learn throughout the program to complete a real-world business analytics project.

Practice Consistently

Take advantage of opportunities to reinforce learning and build practical skills. Making your own notes will always help, although the class notes are provided. Writing important points will come to your aid while revising concepts.
Engage Actively with Course Material

Notes and required materials like datasets and screenshots of visualizations are provided. One just needs to spend time working on it.
Capstone Project

The Capstone project helps apply the concepts learned on Tableau to a real-world data set. This application project helps us understand how to solve a business problem in real-time. For example, one hypothetical problem to solve is, “Why are sales not increasing even after a sizeable budget is allocated towards marketing?”
Network Assistance

A network was created for us to communicate with peers and find jobs. Help with resumes is also provided, along with personalized counseling sessions.
Assessment

The mandatory assessments were frequent, and bite-sized quizzes were often put out during lectures to test our attention and grasp of concepts.

Final Take

While pursuing this course, I was working in the ‘New Initiatives’ team of a start-up. This course immensely helped me analyze the huge daily sales data being generated. Undertaking it helped me channel my analysis so as to be able to make decisions in real time on the field. This course will help anyone who wants to translate huge amounts of data.

This course is relevant because it sets up a foundation on which one can build. This is a starting point for storytelling which is the primary objective of a business analyst. This helps fine-tune our knowledge of how to start a story and what metrics will make it more attractive for the senior management.
