Course Description

English for Journalism is a University of Pennsylvania course that was funded by U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of English Language Programs. Click on the aEnroll Nowa button to enroll and select "Full course". There is no certificate.

The course is for English-speaking non-native speakers interested in a career as a journalist. This course will help you explore digital and print media using authentic readings and videos. It also helps to expand your vocabulary, improve your comprehension, as well as your ability read, search, develop, and evaluate local news stories. Unit 1 provides an overview of the principles and history behind journalism. Unit 2 will teach you how to pitch and research. Unit 4 will be about the fundamentals of news broadcasting. The course's next unit will concentrate on writing newspaper articles and magazine articles. The final unit will examine the impact and growth of digital news and provide a reflective assignment to allow you to reflect on and debate the latest changes in journalism.
