Ever wonder what it takes for human beings to leave the safety of Earth and travel further afield? Space Medicine invites you to participate in an interactive online course led by two Duke alumni. Space Medicine will provide you with the opportunity to learn and interact on the current medical issues facing NASA as well as other space-related challenges. The participants will consider questions that are relevant to space health and the future for humankind.
How can humans adapt to extreme environments?
How do engineers, scientists, doctors and medical researchers work together to stop space-related health problems before they happen?
What challenges might future humans face if they attempt to live in outer space?
What evolutionary adaptations are necessary to survive a long voyage of months or years?
It is not necessary to have any prior knowledge in medicine or science. Life science concepts are introduced when needed. You will be able to apply modern medicine in space-based settings, including space flight and journeying to Mars, by the end of this course.
