I love the "one step at time" approach for modern lettering artists looking to improve their style or add new styles to their repertoire. This video will show you how to do it in real-time. I will also give you tips and commentary as I go.
This exercise can also be used to break out old habits that can hinder your ability to create new work. We'll discuss how to critically evaluate your letters PRODUCTIVELY and then make targeted changes so you can create a unique style of lettering that you love.
This exercise was created for my advanced and intermediate workshop students. They find it useful and learn something new every time they use it. It works well with all types of hand lettering: fountain pen, dip pen, brush marker and fountain pen. I am using a pointed calligraphy pencil fitted in a straight case (link below).
