The University of Alberta (also known as U of A, UAlberta) is a Canadian public research university. It is located in Edmonton, Alberta. Alexander Cameron Rutherford was the first premier of Alberta and Henry Marshall Tory was the university's first president. It was made possible by the Post-secondary Learning Act.
The university is a "comprehensive research and academic university" (CARU). This means it offers a variety of academic and professional programs that lead to both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
There are four campuses at the university in Edmonton, one in Camrose and one in Calgary. The original north campus is made up of 150 buildings and covers 50 blocks of city, just across from downtown Edmonton. There are 400 programs that offer opportunities for students from Canada and 150 countries.
