They may also be involved in the initial building and their roles in the process of construction can differ greatly. The building surveyor could be the agent of a government organization or the business who will own the building. In this capacity, they could periodically visit the site to monitor progress and receive information about the progress. The building surveyor could also serve as an overseer of the project and supervise the entire construction process.

Following the completion of construction The building surveyor conducts periodic inspections of the buildings to make sure that proper maintenance is carried out. The building surveyor could also be accountable for monitoring repairs and also for launching the process of renovation.
