The assistant general manager of a hotel oversees a variety of aspects of the hotel's daily activities. They oversee, for instance, the hotel's housekeeping and the tasks of the front desk, and the inventory of beverage and vending machines. Assistant general managers typically work all-time in hotels for around 40 hours per week during working hours, under the supervision of the hotel's general manager.
Assistant general managers in hotels generally require at least 3 years management experience and supervision experience. Management in the food, service and beverage industry, or in the hotel industry is highly preferred. The college education is usually additionally preferred. Candidates must be knowledgeable about the Microsoft suite of applications, and possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral. They should be well-organized and multi-tasking as well as be detail-oriented and be able to work under little supervision. Being bilingual is a valuable ability in itself.
