Course Description

The amount of data we use is increasing. Gone are the days of staring at endless tables of data. We now use charts and visualisations to tell the story in the data.

This four-week course by The Excel Club will teach you how to use Excel charts and visualisations. It also teaches you when and how to make them look great.

This course will begin by introducing Excel to charting basics, including inserting charts and working with different elements such as gridlines, labels, and axes.

After you have mastered the basics, you can start to explore common excel charts such as line charts, bar, column, and histograms. You'll learn about the different types of charts and how to best optimise them for data visualization.

There are many charts available, so most people will stick to the well-known, but there are many other options that can better represent your data.

Week three will cover the charts you may not see as often. You'll learn how to create bubble charts, waterfall charts or treemaps and what limitations each one may have when trying to convey your message.

You'll be guided through visualizations that aren’t charts in the final week. Learn how to use sparklines, boxplots, slicers, and timelines. Each has its pros and cons.

This course will end with you learning how to create an Excel dashboard. It takes less than 20 minutes to complete, including design, development, and organising data effectively.
