Mastering Typography 1: Introduction to Typographic Contrast

Typography is a key component of graphic design. It is easy to get it wrong. It is not difficult to do it right and create something amazing. This series will take you step-by-step through typography and create effective layouts that make an impact on the viewer. Good typography is something I love and I want to see more of it.

Evgeniya Rigini-Brand is my name. I am a graphic designer who has extensive experience with type at many different levels. I also teach typography at the university level.

What you will learn in this class:

This class will cover the basics of typesetting and the principles of typographic contrast. We will also be looking at pairing typefaces to communicate the desired message. This class will teach you how to style-related skills that will help you make any text-based work stand out, whether it's a presentation, setting up a title for your academic writing or creating catchy cover images for your classes or projects on Skillshare and elsewhere on the social media networks.

Software:

The technical part of this class covers the basics of Adobe InDesign. However, if you don’t have InDesign installed, you don’t need to worry about it. You can still practice typesetting and style-related skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or any other standard word processor such as Pages, Word, or even Google Docs.
