Institute Overview

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Gwalior was established in the year 1997. The Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management’s foundation stone was laid in the beautiful city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. The sole purpose of this institute was to provide research, higher education and consultancy in the areas that are concerning business management as well as information technology. To respect the Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of that time, the institute name was prefixed with ABV in 2002, which made the name ABV IIITM, Gwalior. Total 39 faculty members and 1099 students are enrolled at the institute.

ABV IIITM Gwalior has been designated as the Institute of National Importance. In NIRF Engineering Ranking 2021, the college has secured 106th rank whereas it has secured 58th rank in the NIRF Ranking 2021 for the management category. The institute is accredited by NAAC and is an autonomous institute registered under the Societies Registration Act. It is funded by the Government of India and looking at the efforts of the Indian Government of setting up the institute, the Madhya Pradesh government allotted land of 160 acres to the central government on Morena Road near the Gwalior Fort for it. Currently, about 15 courses are offered by the institute at graduation, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

ABV IIITM is located in the city of true royals, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh in an area that is spread in about 160 acres of land that was gifted to the central government by the Madhya Pradesh state government and has a constructed area of 72480 sq.metre. ABV IIITM Gwalior that is on Morena Road, near the Gwalior Fort is very well approachable. ABV IIITM is at a distance of just 4 km from the railway station of Gwalior, which takes about 10 mins to reach the institute by the mode of cabs or auto rickshaw. The college is 9 km from the Rajmata Vijay Raje Scindia City Airport and takes around 20 minutes to reach the institution via taxis/autos/ cabs.

The institute does not focus only on academics but on the overall development of the students. To meet that goal, ABV IIITM has many extracurricular activities. To keep the students refreshed from the daily academic activities, the institute organises various cultural programmes in the fields of arts, music and drama and small-scale events are organised throughout the year to bring out the abilities of the students in fields other than those of academics. Some of the activities and committees formed are as below:

HIQ: A committee that performs as a channel to distribute knowledge in the institute.

Forum for Free Open Source Software: This committee at the institute of ABV IIITM wants the students at its institute to use products that are based on the Forum for free Open Source Software.

Alumni Association: Like every institute, the aim of ABV IIITM is to maintain sound relations with its alumni and keep updated with the data of their progress in life.

Ombudsman: If the students have any grievances in the institute then those grievances are looked after by this department.

Student Activity Council: A council that is headed by the students to look after the welfare of the students and ensure their ongoing academic progression and satisfaction.

It is an endeavor of ABV IIITM to facilitate the students with the proper facilities that are required during their course of study. Since the institute ensures that, the student excels not only at the academic level but also at other activities like outdoor/indoor sports, cultural activities including arts, music, drama, etc. The overall campus of the institute is spread in a huge area of 160 acres with a constructed area of nearly 72500 sq.metre. The campus houses a resource center that is the library. It has inbuilt hostels separately for boys and girls. There are 3 units of hostels that are made for boys and 1 unit that is made for girls. For the students who are research scholars and would like to stay with their families, ABV IIITM has quarters. The whole campus is internet accessible. There are sports facilities like a volleyball court, badminton court, gymnasium, an open-air theatre and many seminar halls for conducting seminars and workshops around the year. There are around 20 different types of research laboratories related to information technology. Classrooms are equipped with the latest technology and gadgets.
