Central University of Jammu was established in 2011 under Central Universities Act, 2009. The university is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). CU Jammu is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Central University of Jammu is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The university offers courses in the fields of science, management, engineering, arts, education, research, etc. The courses offered by the Central University of Jammu are diploma, B.Sc. (H) and M.Sc. integrated, B.A. and B.Ed. integrated, B.Voc., PG diploma, M.Sc., M.Tech, M.B.A, M.A., M.Ed. and Ph.D. Admission to the courses is based on the merit marks of the candidates in CUCET. For Ph.D programme, UGC/NET/UGC-CSIR NET/SLET/ GATE/M.Phil qualified candidates can apply for admission without CUCET. The university has a total 97 well-qualified faculty members. The total number of students enrolled at present is 1757. Thus, the student-teacher ratio at CU Jammu is 18:1.

The mission of the Central University of Jammu is to provide a quality education through an innovative and research-based curriculum. The vision of the university is to be a centre of excellence and create competent professionals. Many facilities are provided by the university. Some of them are library, boys hostel, girls hostel, sports, gym, auditorium, medical clinic, IT infrastructure, transport, gym, cafeteria and many more. The training and placement cell of the university provides placement assistance to the students. The cell also provides pre-placement training to the students to make them placement-ready. Students at CU Jammu can avail many scholarships like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Postdoctoral Fellowship in Humanities and Special Social Sciences, Post Doctoral Fellowship for Women, Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Science, etc. The university also has clubs and committees like NCC, NSS, etc. The university has many national and international collaborations like the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Gwalior, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, The University of Melbourne, Australia.

The university is located at Bagla Suchani, Jammu and Kashmir. There are several modes of transport to reach the Central University of Jammu. One can travel by air, road or rail to reach CU Jammu. The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi Railway Station. It is located at a distance of 24.3 km and would take around 39 minutes from cab or auto. The nearest bus stop is Samba Local Bus Stand. The distance between the bus stop and the university is 25.2 km. Jammu Airport is the nearest airport. It is 25 km far from the Central University of Jammu and would take approximately 38 minutes from a cab or auto.

The IT Infrastructure of the university is well-maintained and provides a high-speed internet connection in the entire campus. The Central University of Jammu IT infrastructure is also making provisions for starting virtual classes in collaboration with IITs and NITs.
