In 1963, under the government of India, National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra) was established. The institute initially began operating as a Regional Engineering College (REC), but on June 26, 2002, it later obtained the status of a Deemed University. Since it received the status of a Deemed University, the university was later renamed NIT Kurukshetra. It is ranked 44th under the engineering category in the NIRF 2021 Ranking. The National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra campus stretches over an area of 292 acres. NIT Kurukshetra's mission is to provide quality technical education that produces creative practitioners and entrepreneurs and to pursue research-based on socio-economic needs that creates cutting-edge technology and futuristic expertise.
The university offers 48 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Some of the courses offered by NIT Kurukhsetra are B.Tech, M.B.A., Ph.D etc. Admission to courses is done based on national/state/university level entrance examination. The university has a training and placement cell to provide placement opportunities to students. NIT Kurukshetra campus has a wide range of facilities and modern infrastructure. Numerous student clubs are also there in the campus for students to join.
The university is situated in Pipli, Kurukshetra, Haryana. Chandigarh International Airport is the nearest airport to the university. It is located 100 km away from the campus. With a distance of 6.5 km, Jyotisar Halt Railway Station is the nearest railway station to the varsity. NIT Kurukshetra is located 5 km away from the Kurukshetra Bus Stand.
