The university was established in 1984 through the Goa University Act and started functioning from 1985. There are 61 colleges affiliated to Goa University. The university has 5 schools on its campus. The campus size of the university is spread over an area of 402 acres of land. Goa University is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with grade A. with a score of 38.6, Goa University has secured 96th rank in the university category in the NIRF 2021 ranking. The university is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level courses are offered in the Goa University. Some of the popular courses offered are B.Lib.I.Sc. Self Finance, M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.C.A., M.B.A, M.B.A Financial Services Self Finance and Ph.D. Admissions to these courses are either merit based or entrance and merit based.
