Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram was established in the year 2007 and awarded the status of “Deemed to be University” under the UGC Act 1956. The institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The total campus area is spread across 117 acres and it is rated as an AAAA+ in engineering. As a public institution, IIST Thiruvananthapuram is co-educational by nature and was formed with a vision to provide world-class education and research expertise for the contribution of space research. IIST Thiruvananthapuram is one of the most reputed education institutions with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who acted as the first chancellor of inception. IIST Thiruvananthapuram is situated on Valiamala Road in the town of Valiamala, Kerala. The Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum International Airport, which is situated 30 km away, is the closest airport from the Institute and students can reach the campus in about 36 minutes. Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station, which is 25 km away, is the closest railway station to the campus and the students will be able to book a taxi or cab and reach the campus in about 28 minutes. The closest bus stop from the institute is Pathinaram Kallu Stop, which is 1.5 km away, and students can reach the campus in around 5 minutes through road
Thiruvananthapuram medical unit within IIST is equipped with trained physicians and nursing staff to provide students and faculty with any form of medical care. Doctors will be accessed by students and faculty with nursing staff will be available 24x7 for emergencies. There is also an emergency ambulance available for students 24x7.
