Indian Institute of Technology, Indore was established in the year 2009. The government institute is a part of the eight new IITs that were started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India). Initially, the IIT Indore functions under the mentorship of IIT Bombay with its temporary campus located at Devi Ahilyabai University’s Engineering and Technology Institute. In February 2016, IIT Indore changed its location to the permanent campus at Simrol. The campus spreads over an area of 501 acres and has a plethora of facilities. In NIRF Ranking 2021, IIT Indore has secured 13th rank and 26th rank in engineering and research categories respectively. Further, the institute has also been ranked 30th in the overall category by NIRF Ranking 2021.
The college offers 42 courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The institute offers B.Tech, dual degree ,M.Sc., MS, M.Tech. and Ph.D courses. IIT Indore has signed several international as well as national MOUs with renowned institutions. The college provide students with a chance to go on exchange programmes to several universities in Germany, Japan, Thailand, Australia, France, Italy, Belgium, etc. Apart from this, Indian Institute of Technology, Indore also provides assistance for job placements and conducts various workshops, mock tests, seminars, and much more to prepare the students.
The permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology, Indore is located in Madhya Pradesh. It is built at a prime location about 25 kilometres away from the city of Indore and covers an area of 501 acres along the Khandwa Road in Simrol. The college is located 35 km away from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport and 28 km away from the Indore Junction Railway Station. The nearest bus depot from the college is the Navlakha Bus station at a distance of about 22.6 kilometres.
