Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology was formed in the year 1960 in memory of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, former Education Minister of India offers programmes of study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. NIT Bhopal is esteemed to be an “Institute of national importance” which is co-educational with a total student enrollment of 5279 and students and faculty strength of 209 members. The university was formed with a vision to become a global centre for providing professional and technical knowledge and is committed to the mission of producing technical professionals who are logical, moral and ethical for global business as well as strengthening the national economy. Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal has secured 20th rank in the Architecture category in NIRF 2021 Ranking. It was ranked 60th in NIRF engineering Rankings in the year 2021.
NIT Bhopal is spread across 650 acres and surrounded by the border wall and ring road and has planned administrative blocks, academic buildings, workshops, residential areas, library, post office, shopping complex and medical dispensary. The total area of the academic block is planned at 265 hectares and the total building area of the offices covers 250 hectares and the hostel sections cover 14011 square metres, the residential area covers 25116 square metres. NIT Bhopal has centres of excellence such as Energy Centre, Remote Centre, GIS, GPS, nanoscience and engineering.

Bhopal is well connected by railway operating through the Central and Southern railways routes from the cities of Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Trivandrum. In the city of Bhopal, the Habibganj Railway station is located at a distance of 5 kilometres and the Bhopal railway station at a distance of 9 kilometres from the campus. For airways, the Raja Bhoj airport is well connected to major airports all over the country and has daily flights operating from Delhi, Mumbai and it is located at a distance of 16 kilometres from NIT Bhopal.
MANIT Bhopal provides both indoor and outdoor sports facilities for the students. Games such as football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, cricket, etc are available for the student.
