National Institute of Technology Agartala was formed in the year 1965 as Tripura Engineering College and it was affiliated to Calcutta University with the adoption of the curriculum structure of Bengal Engineering College. After several decades of development, the National Institute of Technology Agartala was approved by AICTE and renamed as the National Institute of Technology and then deemed as an “Institute of National Importance” in the year 2006. NIT Agartala campus is spread across an area of 366 acres with a faculty strength of 202 and student enrollment of 3803 in total. The university has been ranked 92nd among engineering institutions in NIRF Ranking 2021, whereas, in 2020, the NIT Agartala was ranked 75th in the same category.
It provides a total of 54 courses of study at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. B.Tech, B.Tech + M.Tech., B.S and M.S, M.C.A., M.B.A., M.Sc., M.Tech. and Ph.D are NIT Agartala courses candidates can apply for. The university is located at Barjala, Jirania, Agartala, Tripura. Agartala Railway station in Dukli area is located at 21 km from the campus and connected through NH8 and NIT Road and it is well connected with the major railway system in the country. The Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala is located at a distance of 26 km away from the university premises. The nearest bus stop to the university is TRTC Bus Depot. It is located 17 km from the campus.
The library of NIT Agartala is well-equipped with wide range of books. It has a spacious reading room with wifi connectivity. A digital library is also present for students and faculty members.
