Established in 1962, Punjab Agricultural University was inaugurated by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India on July 8, 1963. PAU Ludhiana has four constituent colleges- College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, College of Home Science and College of Basic Science and Humanities. PAU Ludhiana has 32 departments and 3 schools across its four constituent colleges. Punjab Agricultural University has been ranked 40th among all agricultural institutions, 24th in universities, 7th among all state-funded universities and 2nd among all agricultural universities, by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2017.
Punjab Agricultural University has collaborated with various other universities/institutions such as CGIAR institutes (CIMMYT, IRRI, ICRISAT, ICARDA, CIAT), AVRDC, University of Wisconsin, WSU, Pullman, OSU, Columbus, KSU, Manhattan, Purdue University, USA, Olds College, Alberta, Canada, University of Western Australia. PAU Ludhiana is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is spread over 1220 acres of land. The total faculty strength at Punjab Agricultural University is 550.
