Electrical test engineers are employed on devices that require electronic components in order to perform their functions. They conduct tests and either decide whether or not to approve electrical systems of products, and oversee the process of transformation of their business when they want to replace the old electrical systems. Other responsibilities include designing solid product tests, examining the wiring of products and verifying the operation of new electric systems. After they have completed testing their products they prepare reports and designs for the products They usually send the reports or designs to the project managers. Alongside testing designs for products they also participate in the final installation and testing of electrical systems. They typically work with system engineers, software engineers, technicians, product managers, and other employees within their own company.

Employers typically prefer that electrical testers possess a minimum master's level degree in electrical engineering, or a relevant area. They should have the ability to present, analyze data as well as written and oral communication abilities.
