Description

A junior interior designer is a part of a firm's interior design team and is tasked with performing several essential duties that ensure client satisfaction. First and foremost, the junior interior designer consults with senior team members about the client's needs. Information about the client and the client's intended use for the space allow the junior interior designer to establish critical elements for design. The designer also consults building designs for information on the dimensions of the space to be designed. They may also take a trip to the space - as well as view pictures - to get a better idea of its layout.

Once the junior interior designer has more information about the project and the client's needs, they begin to design the interior (typically using computer software such as AutoCAD). They start by placing the fundamentals of the space; for example, a restaurant dining room would need tables and chairs, and an office space would need desks and office chairs. Once all of the essential elements have been established, the designer may work on the more aesthetic elements. At this point of the design phase, the interior designer must use their creativity and best practices to create a satisfying design. After completing the design, the junior interior designer turns the design over to senior members, who will make any necessary changes before presenting the design to the client.

Generally, junior interior designers must have a bachelor's degree in interior design or a related field. Previous experience in a similar position may be preferred.
