Process improvement specialists are responsible of identifying and implementing procedures for their organizations employing engineering methods. They are responsible for tasks related to manufacturing design, production and construction. their primary responsibility is working with other engineers in identifying problems with efficiency and quality in the manufacturing process. Process improvement engineers are also involved in meetings and make suggestions regarding changes that can improve the efficiency of production and improve quality. They implement process improvement procedures and conduct analysis of root causes, and write detailed reports on improvements problems.
They must conduct periodic reviews of quality assurance and ensure that they are in compliance with company and industry standards for all their tasks. They also evaluate the credentials of prospective suppliers and coordinate quality initiatives and represent their company at meetings with external parties and regulatory bodies. Process improvement engineers conduct audits of suppliers, oversee their quality control system address operational issues and conduct trend analysis. In all their tasks, these engineers must adhere to strict guidelines and contract requirements.
An undergraduate degree from engineering or another related field is necessary for this position. Additionally, prior work experience with a quality improvement or Quality assurance role - and the industry's certifications are preferred. Process improvement engineers should have an excellent ability to communicate with suppliers and partners and assist in the implementation of corrections as needed. They must have experience in manufacturing and engineering concepts, and also be able to operate machinery for production.
