A project manager is accountable for every aspect of a project. They can manage a large or small team, and could be the sole person responsible for certain projects themselves, based upon the scale of the business and the scope of the project. The project manager serves as the primary point for contact with customers or clients to answer questions and provide information. Within the team the project manager assigns tasks and tracks the progress of the project while offering suggestions for improvement and helping to facilitate the timely completion of the project. It is the job of the project manager's responsibility to make sure that the work completed is in line with the requirements of both clients and companies and to take action if the standards are not being adhered to. They oversee and take part in every aspect of development, research, production, and follow-up of the projects they supervise.

These positions often, but not always, require certification as a project management professional.Experience in relevant positions demonstrating progressive responsibility is generally needed, and a postsecondary degree (such as a bachelor's or master's degree) in a relevant field is often required.
