Director of Strategic Planning is an executive position, working mostly with the company's top management. Directors provide top-level direction on the strategic plan of the company and consult with the company's leaders and presenting about the company's past and projected performance. They can work with directors of several department within the organization (including marketing, finance supply, legal, and finance) as well as company vendors and with other companies (to create successful joint business ventures).
Directors of strategic planning should be able to build teams for the specific projects they manage and must be capable of preparing plans for business acquisitions and for development. They also review the existing plans for business to increase their effectiveness and also create short- and long-term solutions to financial issues and operational issues within the organization. Director of Strategic Planning typically work full-time in a workplace however, overtime could be needed to accommodate the range of professionals with whom they collaborate. It is possible to travel to meet with representatives or vendors of other businesses.
A bachelor's degree or a master's degree in a related area is usually required for this job, and at minimum five years of experience in the field. Director of Strategic Planning should be able to handle complicated spreadsheets and data sets to evaluate business requirements and develop. They should be able to comprehend the complexities of financial plans as well as financial reports. Experience using Oracle Financial Suite and/or other relevant software might be required in addition.
