SAP Basis administrators are central individuals in IT departments. They have a deep knowledge of SAP and its database hardware platform, operating system to manage the monitoring process and solve problems in an a timely efficient way. They collaborate directly with the those departments within their organizations (such as the development and technical support teams) and provide technical assistance, guidance and expertise when needed.
Other duties that an SAP Basis administrator can perform include arranging SAP maintenance updates and patches, supplying assistance to users on a regular basis, configuring and installing necessary servers, as well as performing other duties related to day-to-day activities. Furthermore, SAP Basis administrators must adhere to the relevant operational procedures, and modify or update the procedures as required. They must also be able to formulate and implement suggestions on how to improve the efficiency of their processes as well.
SAP Basis administrator positions usually require a minimum Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a related field. A master's degree is preferential or mandatory as well. Experience working with SAP Basis is generally required and also experience with other systems administration (such such as Java, Unix and/or Oracle). SAP administrators should be able to function in a group setting and also independently with little supervision.
