They are responsible for managing a team of engineers in identifying the most effective health and safety solutions prior to the launch of new products or services. They must adhere to the company's procedures and meet the legal requirements of environmental health and safety regulations. The senior EHS engineers also supervise the research process, where others EHS engineers search for new methods to safeguard the environment and ensure public security. In addition, they take part in safety meetings, where they recommend modifications and conduct health assessments whenever required. The senior EHS engineers also design and manage safety and environmental programs for their companies. They are responsible for studying the current and planned equipment, processes, products and facilities to avoid accidents, property damage and the impact upon the natural environment. They also identify and assess the health, environmental and safety hazards, and report on their findings and raise issues to their (EHS) manager of their department.
A bachelor's degree in engineering related to the field of environmental security and health is necessary to be considered for this job. Experience in the engineering role is required in addition. Certifications in leadership and industry may be preferable. Senior EHS engineers should have excellent interpersonal skills in order to be able to communicate with team members as well in establishing strong relationships with partners from outside.
