Business development officers are accountable to work towards increasing revenues and profits relating to the products and services offered by their company. Business development officers is also accountable to build stronger relationships with shareholders and members of their organization. Other responsibilities required of a business development officer on a daily basis are analyzing portfolios to identify new opportunities, establishing new business strategies, and keeping up-to-date with the institution's policies, programs, offerings and pricing. They also have the responsibility of working in conjunction with colleagues on the development of products and competitive positioning creating new services, and enhancing the use of products and services offered through their institutions. The working hours for this position can vary, however this is usually a full-time job in a workplace and requires travel to collaborate with other stakeholders and to build a business.

The requirements for this job typically require a bachelor's degree in finance, business or another similar field. Experience in the field could be considered (such being 10 years' work experience that includes at least five of those years at a similar institution).
