A chief executive officer (CEO) of a non-profit organization is responsible for overseeing the company’s functions and employees and or or volunteers. Depending on the type of non-profit, they must also ensure that all finances are in order on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Although non-profit organizations usually have specific employees to oversee incoming and outgoing money, the CEO will be the highest-level employee who oversees such actions.Non-profit CEOs must provide directions to employees throughout the organization to regroup and redirect when finances are not in balance, and they are also responsible for firing and hiring employees within the organization. If the organization has volunteers, the CEO often has the final say on who remains in the programs and who may be let go. They may also plan and schedule activities and events which revolve around the organization’s mission and assemble the teams of employees and volunteers who will bring them to life.CEOs of nonprofit organizations often have college degrees, though only a high school diploma may be necessary for some positions. Some organizations may require a higher degree, from an associate's degree to a doctorate.
