Description

Manufacturing process engineers is responsible for the design and management of manufacturing operations. They design a productive workflow, adjust to changes in the environment and design new procedures, equipment and procedures to improve efficiency throughout every aspect of the operation. The professional needs to use an analytical approach to bring innovative processes for production. Manufacturing process engineers also supervises the operation to ensure that equipment and employees adhere to safety standards, and identifies ways to save money, troubleshoot equipment, and reports any problems to management. They work with the managers in the front line to ensure that production runs smoothly and offer training to the production team on how to operate equipment correctly. In addition, the manufacturing engineer has to respond to any mechanical and maintenance emergencies and respond appropriately to them.

The engineer in charge of manufacturing processes typically is employed full-time during normal working hours, and is on call whenever needed. They typically spend the majority of their time on the floor of production within a standard factory environment and also have some time for general office tasks. A certain amount of travel is required to fulfill this job.

Candidates who are successful for the position of manufacturing process engineers generally require an undergraduate degree in engineering or another related field and at minimum eight years of working experience in a similar manufacturing engineering job. A certified manufacturing engineer (CMfgE) accreditation is usually preferred. They must be familiar with the most recent electromechanical technologies and be able to be able to adjust to technological advancements. They must also have a thorough understanding of manufacturing software and be able to master new software whenever they are required. The engineer in charge of manufacturing processes must be able to communicate effectively and be proficient with the relevant computer programs and software.
