Development officers are responsible for the management of donor and funding actions for their organizations. They manage fundraising efforts and gather current and potential donor data. They establish professional connections with foundations, individuals and other organizations They also provide ongoing assistance to marketing initiatives of companies.

The majority of the time development officers have to use research databases to identify potential donors; they record every donation and evaluate the revenues. Development officers also oversee the entire revenue-generating process, organize events, and follow-up with requests from donors as required. They establish strategic alliances to improve awareness of the company and the donor network. Additionally, they represent the company in meetings and other events with donors. Corporate proposals for how to meet funding goals is an essential part of the job of a development officer. They oversee a list of active and important donors and stay in contact with them regularly. Development officers work with volunteers, prepare precise financial reports for executives of management and participate in networking opportunities and occasions.
